Hi everyone! I realize it’s been a long few months since my last post, and for that, I apologize. Between the holidays, school breaks, a spin cycle of cold and flu circulating around my home, Punky’s dental surgery, and myself finally being discharged from the Orthodontics department of my local hospital (after a very long 6.5 years and two major jaw surgeries), I needed a little bit of a breather. I dropped the ball. I’m sorry. But now the blogging hiatus is over!
How was everyone’s holiday season? Did you make any resolutions? Did you stick to them? No? Well, me neither.
I don’t know about you, but I feel exceptionally uninspired during those long dark months between November-February. It’s finally starting to warm up here (it was 50F today!), the days are starting to get longer, and my mood is no longer on its usual winter rollercoaster. My orchids are even blooming right now. It’s crazy.
During my break, I honestly had no idea what to write about. No inspiration at all. I even started staying away from the news sources and social media for my mental health. Between the shitstorm in the US, and the Brexit shitstorm here, it’s all just been incredibly depressing.
But, I’ve been spending more quality time with my guys without distractions, which is awesome. I’ve even dyed my long hair a deep dark purple. It almost looks black until you see it in the light. It’s a much-needed change from the faded red and ever-expanding grey at my temples that makes me look much older than I am.
Christmas, New Year’s Eve and Day, and Valentine’s Day were fantastic. We ate, drank, opened presents, and were generally merry. We had a low key Christmas, and Punky loved (almost) everything he received. The most surprising gift that The Husband and I bought and that Punky loved was a £3 pair of slipper socks that I purchased at Asda. New Year’s Eve was a quiet evening in. The Husband had to work, as usual, so by the time he got home, we were already pretty tired and in no mood to celebrate. I even forgot to buy the sparklers that Punky enjoyed so much on Bonfire Night.
We celebrated Chinese New Year with The Husband’s side of the family a few weeks ago, and it was lovely! I do wish we could have stayed longer, but it was the day after Punky went under general anesthesia to have his last three baby teeth removed to keep his adult teeth from becoming more impacted. He wasn’t feeling well so we came home early.
Valentine’s Day was celebrated with a home-cooked meal with tea light candles in pink mercury glass candle holders for decor. I made butter basted sirloin steak, asparagus, salad, and garlic butter mushrooms for dinner. We had wine, sparkling grape juice (for Punky), and Pepsi (for The Husband because he doesn’t drink). Before dinner, we turned some classical music on Youtube and had a lovely family meal. Punky especially enjoyed drinking his sparkling grape juice out of one of my wine glasses.
Blush Rose Decor
During the blogging hiatus, I HAVE been a *tad* bit creative. I’ve been making patterns and items for Blush Rose Décor. It turns out that I’m not in love with my current host after switching several times (plus it’s really expensive). Over the next few days, I’ll be changing everything over to a WordPress hosted site. While it’s more technical and frustrating, I’m much more familiar with the platform and there are fewer restrictions on accessing the necessary files in PHP and CPanel. This means the site will be down for about 24 hours but have no fear! Everything that’s currently listed will be moving over to the new platform.
If you haven’t checked out Blush Rose Décor yet, here are a few things I’ve been working on:
1. I Want Coffee, Not Your Opinion Mug – $17.99 | 2. Purple Tile Print Dog Bed – $37.99+ | 3. Spring in Watercolor Dopp Kit – $17.99+ | 4. Happy Macaron Dopp Kit – $17.99+ | 5. Blue and Orange Floral Tea Towel – $15.99 | 6. Blue Floral Dog Bed – $37.99+ | 7. Blue Terrazzo Coasters (set of 4) – $18.99 | 8. Multicolor Tea Towel – $15.99
Coffee and Kerfuffles Store?
I’m still toying with the idea of creating a store here on Coffee and Kerfuffles. Would you all be interested in printables such as scrapbook papers, monthly calendars, chore charts, grocery lists, and weekly meal plan templates? Maybe some print on demand stuff too? I’ve found that I really enjoy creating different things with Adobe Illustrator, and I’m pretty damn good at it if I do say so myself. It’s honestly the best job ever, Punky even agrees! Let me know in the comments here or on my C&K Facebook page. I LOVE feedback, so please don’t be shy.
For those of you who have submitted resources via email and I haven’t responded, I apologize. I have seen your email and will update the resources page ASAP. Most of the emails went into my spam folder, which I just checked today. I will get them added either tonight or tomorrow morning while Punky is at school.
So tell me, what keeps you inspired during the short winter days? I need a bit of help staying motivated when all I really want to do is hibernate like a bear. Leave your suggestions below!
Until next time (and I promise it won’t be so long until my next post),
