Beautiful Home Office Decor on a Budget

I’ve been spending almost my entire week on Pinterest searching for home decor stuff, dreaming about my future home office. At the moment, my “home office” consists of a second (or third-hand) purple desk that I picked up on Freecycle in my living room. It’s covered with toys, paperwork, pens, medication, and other random bits and bobs on a regular basis. My desk seems to be a catch all for everything in my home. I don’t have to tell you how maddening that is! While I absolutely love sleek, feminine decor, it seems like everything is way too expensive. I’m notoriously cheap and have the need to make a space look expensive on an insanely low budget. Today we’re going to talk about beautiful home decor on a budget!

The Desk

The most important piece of furniture in your home office is your desk. You’ll spend several hours (or if you’re like me, up to 12 hours a day) at your desk, so you’d better like it!

I prefer tempered glass topped desks for a few reasons. One is that they’re super easy to clean! My current desk is chipboard covered with a thin layer of plastic and paint. It soaks up liquids like crazy due to the pits and scratches in the top, so I need to be very careful with my cleaning products. The second reason is that glass lets light through, it allows your space to not look too cluttered, and looks great!

Honestly, I’d probably spend the most amount from my decor budget on my desk if I find the perfect one. I just to make sure it’s going to last, looks great, and has enough storage space for all of my piles of paperwork.

Storage Options

Every home office needs ample storage! The options below work well in a beautiful, feminine office, and are affordable to boot. The reason I’ve chosen all white furniture for my home office is because I can change the look quite easily by swapping out accessories.

  1. Hawthorn Tall Bookcase – Corliving – $104.99

2. Hemnes Bookcase – Ikea – $149.00

3. Kallax 4×4 shelf – Ikea – $109.00

4. Hirsh 3 Drawer Locking Filing Cabinet – Steel – $69.99

5. Hopedale 4 Door Storage Armoire – $249.99

6. Omega Console Table White – Convenience Concepts

I actually have the Kallax shelf from Ikea here in my living room. It’s currently being used as toy storage. It holds a ton of stuff, is very sturdy, and it’s easy to clean. Even my large 3 ring binders fit in the spaces comfortably, which is very important for my consulting business. I’d definitely buy the Hirsh locking filing cabinet for important documents such as birth certificates, passports, taxes, etc. It’s a must have in any office!

Seating

To me, seating is incredibly important. You really should have more than just a desk chair in your office, simply because then you’ll have more space to sit and work without encroaching on other areas of the house. I don’t like sitting at my desk to work for more than a few hours because I have back issues, and the simple fact that my chair is NOT comfortable. Not to say that I don’t do it anyway, but I’d prefer not to. Ideally I’d love a big oversized sofa as well as a few other pieces such as a table with dining chairs for meetings with potential clients. The pieces below reflect my personal style, but I’m hoping that you love them too!

Flooring

Here you have the chance to use whatever type of flooring you want. I prefer hardwood in every room of my home, but in an office I’d definitely need a bit of warming up a little bit with rugs. To find cheap options that would work for you, I immediately went with carpet tiles! You can choose any color that you love, you can mix and match to your hearts desire, plus if they wear out they’re very easy to replace. I love this grey carpet tile at number 1, and at $1.19/sq ft it’s definitely an affordable option.

Accessories

This is the fun bit! You can choose different art prints, vases, candle holders, lamps, etc and really make the space your own and to give it a bit of color. I’m currently loving the grey, pink, and white trend as you’ve probably seen throughout my Pinterest boards.
